AIF project

Week 12
Final Touches, Editing and Peer Review
This Weeks Planning

Due Dates - E2
Progress Checks: Monday May 5

Portfolio: Thursday May 8

To plan for these final due dates the last week and a bit of the AIF project for me were left for checking through the portfolio and ensuring every part of the website (in which the AIF project was on) was working as planned. Furthermore I posted my AIF output on youtube and embedded the youtube video into the portfolio. The page on my portfolio with the output can be found using the button below.

I also put these due dates into my calendar which helped me plan my other subjects work around AIF better.

Peer Review - PA1, E2
In class our teacher gave us the opportunity to do a peer review. However, although I wanted to do it I was unable to find anyone in the class that would do it with me. This was a bit frustrating as I wanted to do a peer review so that I could check through my portfolio.

Therefore, I decided to adapt the peer review thing so that one of my family members could do it. However, this meant that I was unable to read another portfolio I think this was quite helpful with the limited opportunity I had to conduct a "peer" review.

The peer review template provided by my AIF teacher involved 6 parts: greatest strength, tiny tweaks, hungry for more (what should be included more,
Family member review - PA1, E3
After conducting the peer review with one of my family members they identified some parts of my portfolio that could do a bit of tweaking. First of all, my family member said that the font size I used was too small. Whilst it wasn't an issue for me she informed me that it could be an issue for my teacher or for moderators. After reflecting on this issue I agreed with her and decided to adjust my font size so that it was slightly larger. Whilst this did mess up some of my formatting I think overall this change was for the best.

The greatest strength of my portfolio that she identified was my video recordings. I agree with that as I think it was a good idea for me to start recording as soon as I could for my AIF project. I think that the videos add some life to my portfolio and also help show my dog's growth and progress in dog training quite well.

The part that she identified didn't work as well. She said that she thought I talked a bit too much about my process and things like timetabling as it is unnecessary for someone who would want to learn about dog training and not making an AIF project. I think that whilst this would be true in some cases (e.g. if I was writing something for the RSPCA), through talking to my AIF teacher and peers I know that this is a key part of the AIF project.

The part in my portfolio she thought "blew her mind" was the output. I think this made sense as she was also a part of the process and a video like the output would make her feel nostalgic and happy memories too.

Finally, she said that my portfolio looked quite good. However, she said that I could try include some funny things to improve the teachers reading experience. Whilst I felt like it was quite hard to try implement some humorous parts into the AIF project, I decided I would include some more pictures in the weekly log page.
Review Of Strategy - E2
Overall I think this peer review that I adapted to fit my family member worked quite well. It definitely did help me make some minor tweaks in the portfolio such as increasing the font size. However, what I don't think worked as well was my mum's overall understanding of the AIF project such as the need to include the strategies that I used.

I think whilst I did get some helpful advice on some small things, the peer review wasn't too helpful for me as it didn't identify some larger things I could include. I think if I was to do this strategy again (whilst I can't because of the portfolio due date) I would tell my peers ahead of time. This would allow them to plan out a time to conduct the peer review. I think this would help as my peers have a stronger understanding of the AIF project and would likely be able to provide higher quality advice.
Final Journal Entry
SUMMARY OF JOURNAL ENTRY - E1, E2
Overall I am quite happy with the progress I have made throughout the AIF project. In this project I have done a variety of things such as interacting with a variety of different people, adapting to unexpected events and conducted dog training for both skills and tricks.
Things that have been taught:

This has included basic commands such as sit and lie down and tricks such as shake hands and play dead. Additionally, I have taught Winnie recall and fetch. I have also improved her behaviours such as scratching, taking treats gently and her potty training.

Strategies:

Overall, I have improved my ability to use strategies. These include: google calendar, microsoft task planner, notion (dog training planner), mind mapping, process of elimination, observation, interviewing family members and peers, drafting and journalling. I have also improved my usage of research strategies such as using the library resources and using the key points, value and what next structure. These have aided in my AIF project and have helped me make choices about my direction of learning and the way I conduct dog training. I have also used journalling to reflect on my progress and plan for the future which I have adapted to be more efficient and useful.

Changes as a learner:

I think over the course of the AIF project I have improved my communication skills, my teaching ability (e.g. teaching my family and communicating things about Winnie according to my research or experience), my ability to manage large projects and my ability to adapt strategies and plans to fit my situation.

Finally, I am quite proud of the learning output I have created which I think demonstrates my progress quite neatly.
