AIF project

Weekly Log
Week 1
In the first week I first brainstormed various ideas with my AIF class to create various possible interest areas that the project could be completed in. I also interviewed someone who was close to me for their perspective on an interest area. I then chose ideas that I was particularly interested in and explored them further.
Week 2
In the second week I started recording the various behaviours that Winnie displayed and started some simple tricks with her. Furthermore I started to research various dog training methods online to develop an understanding of what I would be doing in the future weeks.
Week 3
Week 3
In the first week I first brainstormed various ideas with my AIF class to create various possible interest areas that the project could be completed in. I also interviewed someone who was close to me for their perspective on an interest area. I then chose ideas that I was particularly interested in and explored them further.
Week 4
In Week 4, I focused on researching and refining training strategies, including the treat feeding method and family consistency in corrections. I implemented and evaluated various metacognitive strategies to improve organisation, including Google Calendar and structured note-taking.
Week 5
In Week 5, I focused on preparing for my progress check and refining parts of my portfolio. I also shifted to a more practical approach as I had completed the majority of the research in previous weeks. This week was quite a lot of fun and I found Winnie's recall developed quite well.
Week 6
In the sixth week I took Winnie to the park with some of my family members to practice recall. I also prepared for my first progress check which I would conduct with my teacher that week. I also continued crate training and practiced leaving her in the crate for slightly longer periods of time.
Week 7
In Week 7 I started fetch training with Winnie. This was more challenging then recall training. I also wrote up the progress check that I conducted with my AIF teacher. Finally, I acted on the advice from my AIF teacher and was able to contact a professional dog trainer that would provide feedback on my dog training videos so far.
Week 8
This week I had to go to Canberra for the National Fencing Camp. Therefore, I wrote up a simple training programme for my mum to complete when I was gone. However, this was slightly unnecessary as Winnie was feeling sick from her 3rd vaccinations. I also received feedback from the professional dog trainer.
Week 9
This week I continued fetch training with Winnie. However, I adapted this in response to the training feedback I received from the professional dog trainer. I also started to prepare for the next progress check this week.
Week 10
This week I focused on fetch training again with the focus on moving fetch training to different environments and different places in the house. Furthermore, I did a simple revision and plan for the output to ensure that I had everything I needed for the output when going into the holidays.
Week 11
In week 11 all I did was do some informal training with Winnie and write my progress check. This week was less productive and was like a rest week going into the holidays where I would complete my learning output.
Holidays
In the holidays I completed my learning output. I did this in 3 phases - planning and research, drafting and then the final editing phase. This process took all the time I spent on AIF in the holidays. However, I am quite happy with final product.
Week 12
Week 12 was the last week of my AIF project (first week of the second term of school). In Week 12 I did a peer review of my portfolio (with my family) and did some final revisions of my portfolio before submission.
